You can build a time capsule! Your capsule will hold objects and writings that express your experiences and thoughts during the COVID-19 school closures.
- Important Note About Time Capsules
- When do you want it to be opened? Is it weeks, months, or years from now?
- Who do you want to open it? You, a friend, a teacher, a family member, etc.?
Something the scale of the coronavirus crisis has never happened before in modern history.
- Has anything like this happened before in human history?
- How was that past experience documented?
- What can we learn from it?
- What questions do you still have?
Then, consider "How can your documentation and the objects you store in this time capsule help people in the future understand your experience of this crisis?"
STEP ONE
You are asked to start a journal (some of you may have already, MAYBE) where you will document your thoughts, feelings, hopes, fears, etc. during these unprecedented times. You can put the journal inside the time capsule when you're done writing it! Some examples of entries you could make in your daily journals:
- What did you learn today? About yourself, the world, or your family?
- How do you feel today?
- What happened in the news today? Does it make sense? Does it impact your life? Why or why not?
- What are your dreams? Your fears?
- Where are you?
- Who are you? How old are you?
- What's going on right now in your life?
- What's important for them to know about you?
- What are your hopes for the future?

Besides working on or towards creating your time capsule, this is your only assignment this week. Please send it to me by the end of the week.
STEP TWO
Fill the time capsule with other special objects that you think will tell people in the future about you and your life. Some suggestions include:
- a puzzle you and your family completed
- a board game or deck of cards you have played with your family
- a book you are reading (when done) or have read
- a cool project you created
***These objects must have the purpose of telling us something about your experience (during this time).
When the time capsule is full of objects, drawings, or writings, you will seal it up! ...and send it too the future (or put it somewhere it won't get in anyone's way or get opened). Write a reminder in the calendar for the day it will be opened. Or, write an invitation for the person who you want to open it when the time comes.
While the project seems like a lot, I'm hoping we have some FUN with it. I will also be creating a time capsule and sharing it with you. The project will be due on May 14th (one month and a day from today). At that time, I will ask you to take a picture of your time capsule to send to me along with a written component (the topic has not been determined yet).
Take care in writing your letter of introduction as it is for marks. While I am very interested in what you write, the mechanics of your writing (proper grammar, punctuation and sentence structure) also count. Make sure it is sent to my school email.
*As always, any questions, concerns, or confusions, please post on this website so that we can all have a better understanding of the project and what is being asked or required.
